Description

The old parts of Ahmedabad city are a different world altogether with amazing old architectural buildings with intricate wooden carved facades, motifs, and temples in the old neighborhoods. One could easily lose oneself wandering in the countless mazes of narrow lanes and alleys in these pols. The peace and quiet there is in such stark contrast with the noise and chaos of the bustling city surrounding them.
While on a trip there, I came across a neighborhood where the play of strong light and shadows was very interesting. Except for this lone cow, which was probably scouring the garbage for any food, I could hardly see a soul there. Hence I came up with this title. I guess the residents were either still asleep or were lazing around in their houses. I've used both transparent and opaque watercolors on a tinted paper for this painting.

Concept

Painting for me is a way of celebrating beauty all around us, be it nature, the old buildings, people and their activities, which, a normal person can easily miss as he or she goes about his daily job. So in a sense, Art is a revelation, a way to communicate what I feel and see, with others and revealing the beauty of mundane things in life.
Watercolour is my most preferred medium because it can be used very efficiently both ways – transparent and opaque. There is always an element of mystery, a sense of urgency when painting with watercolours, which makes the process of painting all the more enjoyable. I try to use several techniques in a single painting to please the senses and to achieve the desired result.
